Will Obama's stimulus plan work?

US President Barack Obama has signed his $787bn (£548bn) economic stimulus package calling it "the most sweeping recovery package in our history".

He hopes the plan - a package of tax cuts and spending - will "save or create more than 3.5 million jobs" and start the flow of federal money toward infrastructure projects, health care, renewable energy development and conservation programmes.

Mr Obama said: "I don't want to pretend that today marks the end of our economic problems, nor does it constitute all of what we're going to have to do to turn our economy around, but today does mark the beginning of the end."



Republicans argue the tax cuts are insufficient, and that the economy will be saddled with debt for years to come.

The approved version of the plan is split into 36% for tax cuts and 64% percent in spending and money for social programmes.

Are you in the US? Do you support the plan? Has it struck the right balance between tax cuts and spending programmes? Do you agree with President Obama that it marks the "beginning of the end" of the economic problems in the US or will it just stimulate more debt?

 glutinous greed for money and power brings misery to many.

 Its not about money its about resources. we dont eat money it doesnt keep us warm. thats the truth. Money equals debt, thats all it ever has ever will.

 I may look like a pestimistec hater of Obama but all he is doing in delaying the worse. In 10 years this all will happen what then.

 It will lead to debt, obviously. our children will spend there lives paying off the interest through tax and the world will probably be enslaved for another century or two.

 Comment: I'm not that opinionated on the specifics of his fiscal policies. It's not my strong point unfortunately... ( rsherfan ) I may look like a pestimistec hater of Obama but all he is doing in delaying the worse. In 10 years this all will happen what then.
